Job Summary
The Project Engineering Technician supports the construction quality assurance (CQA) program for earthwork and civil construction projects across the Southeast. This entry-level role focuses on field testing, construction observation, and detailed documentation under supervision of senior staff, ensuring grading, embankment construction, structural fills, and geosynthetic system installations meet engineering specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards. Key duties include field testing and sampling (drive cylinder moisture/density testing, Shelby tube sampling), geosynthetics observation and installation support, earthwork monitoring and documentation, producing daily field reports with test data and material tracking, and clear coordination with project engineers and field leads. Travel is expected full-time to project sites throughout the Southeast. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with an associate's degree preferred; 0-3 years of relevant experience; certification progress with ICC and related codes within specified timelines; and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions. Background checks are part of any conditional offer, and applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship and able to interview on-site.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in a related field preferred
- 0-3 years of experience in CQA, soil testing, construction inspection, or related work
- Must demonstrate proficiency in drive cylinder moisture and density testing and undisturbed Shelby tube sampling within 3 months of hire
- Must pass ICC Special Inspector General Requirements certification within 3 months of hire
- Must pass ICC Soils Codes and Soils Plans certifications within 12 months of hire
- Nice to Have: Nuclear gauge certification, ACI or ICC Reinforced Concrete Certification
- Ability to travel extensively (50-90%) within the United States
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and client-facing professionalism
- Ability to work outside in the elements and on varying terrain for extended periods of time
