Job Summary
Conduct research, data collection, and evaluations for DPW projects spanning water, sewer, roads, and solid waste management. Perform planning, design, construction inspection, surveying, contracting, and contract management while preparing plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents. Maintain accurate records, communicate effectively on sensitive public inquiries, and operate drafting and design software. Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering, Class D driver's license, and ability to obtain operator licenses as needed.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Class D drivers license
Desired Qualifications
- up to three (3) years of experience in engineering, survey, or construction
- any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam certificate
- Ability to obtain Drinking Water and Wastewater operator licenses as required by the specific Project Engineer position held within the DPW
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering
- Knowledge of the design standards, methods, techniques, materials and equipment involved with the maintenance, repair and construction of DPW related projects (roads, water, sewer, etc.)
- Knowledge of state and local regulations pertaining to the design, construction, and repair of DPW infrastructure
- Some knowledge of state and local procurement regulations and policies
- Ability to prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates and contract documents for construction projects
- Ability to write and communicate effectively
- Ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to respond to difficult and sensitive public inquiries and maintain tactfulness and courtesy in high stress situations
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Ability to operate a computer, including word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Ability to work in a close-knit, team environment
- Proficiency in the use of computers including word processing, spreadsheets, database, and engineering, drafting and design software
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with individuals and groups
