Job Summary
Lead roadway and highway design projects, including horizontal and vertical alignment, intersection design, and ADA compliance. Prepare engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates per Connecticut DOT standards while performing geometric design, grading, drainage, and traffic control planning. Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to manage schedules, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring full regulatory compliance. Communicate with clients and public agencies to resolve technical challenges and mentor junior staff. Support business development through proposal preparation and client meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe
- 8+ years of progressive experience in roadway and highway design
- Strong knowledge of transportation engineering principles, traffic operations, traffic signal systems, and roadway safety analysis
- Experience preparing traffic impact studies, safety assessments, and transportation planning reports
- Familiarity with MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), and applicable state and local design standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with CTDOT and Connecticut transportation agencies
- Experience with Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, SIDRA, or other traffic analysis and simulation software
- Experience with OpenRoads (with CT DOT DDE) and AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Familiarity with permitting processes and environmental documentation
- Experience mentoring and leading technical staff
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification and/or Roadway Safety Professional certification
- Membership and/or leadership experience within industry organizations (ITE, ASCE, WTS, ITS, etc.)
