Job Summary

Researches, plans, and coordinates waste collection and diversion projects, programs, and services, including developing options/recommendations for new and revised programs, and coordinating/conducting communications and outreach activities to promote programs and services to the public. Assists with project planning, research, and development related to waste collection/diversion in response to changes in legislation and program/service updates. Analyzes legislation, by-laws, program data, policies, and industry trends; develops options and recommendations. Plans and coordinates implementation of new/revised projects (e.g., composting, curb-side garbage, organics, recycling) and related communications/outreach to the public and partners. Assists in development of communication and marketing strategies, creates promotional materials, and collaborates with creative services to coordinate activities. Develops surveys and evaluation tools to measure program effectiveness and public feedback. Prepares program reports for management; evaluates program performance and recommends changes. Conducts informational presentations to the public and media; responds to inquiries. Manages inventories of program resources; collaborates with staff and stakeholders; represents the section with other departments; supports procurement processes where needed. Requires knowledge of waste programs, project management, public education campaigns, and ability to read/interpret technical information; strong written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel). Must have a valid G driver’s license (or G2 with 3 years) and a good driving record.

Required Qualifications

  • A 4-year degree in environmental studies, environmental science, sustainability, climate and environmental change, or related field, plus 1 year of related experience, or an equivalent combination (e.g., 3-year degree + 2 years)
