Project Controls Accountant

Job Summary
Maintain accurate job cost records, reconcile ERP data against contractor billings and timesheets, and prepare monthly accruals to support month-end close. Develop cost forecasts using actuals and schedule-driven assumptions, analyze margin movements, and communicate key drivers to executive leadership. Validate contractor progress reports, review change orders for pricing support, and maintain logs to ensure approved changes reflect in budgets. Coordinate cost and schedule information to identify early risks, update Primavera P6 schedules, and produce weekly and monthly executive reports. Build Power BI and Excel dashboards to visualize project controls data and improve reporting efficiency through automation. Ensure data integrity across Oracle PPM, SAP, and Procore while providing training to field personnel on cost reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Construction Management, Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of experience in project controls, project accounting, cost control, cost engineering, construction finance or capital program controls
- Demonstrated experience with budgets, actuals, commitments, accruals, forecasts, variance analysis, contractor validation and change management
- Advanced Excel including pivots, lookups, financial models, reconciliations and analytical workbooks
- ERP and project controls systems such as Oracle PPM, SAP, EcoSys, Viewpoint, Procore or similar
- Strong understanding of job costing, accrual accounting, cost forecasting, change controls and earned progress concepts
- High attention to detail and strong accounting control mindset
- Analytical problem solving with ability to identify cost risk, reporting gaps and process improvement opportunities
- Ability to communicate financial and project controls information clearly to project managers, accounting teams and executives
- Strong ownership, prioritization and follow-through across multiple projects and deadlines
- Collaborative approach with operations, finance, procurement, scheduling and field teams
- Position may be subject to pre-employment screening, which may include background check and drug testing
Desired Qualifications
- CPA, CPA candidate, CPA PEP enrollment or equivalent accounting designation progress
- Experience managing large construction, infrastructure, energy, industrial, transportation or heavy civil project portfolios
- Experience supporting executive-level project reporting and portfolio financial controls
- Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project experience
- Power BI, Tableau or similar dashboard and visualization tools
- AACE CCP, PSP or related cost/schedule certification
- PMP, PMI-SP or similar project management certification
- OSHA 30 or construction safety training
