Job Summary
Conduct Section 106 and due diligence assessments for infrastructure and energy projects, including field surveys, archaeological resource identification, and effects assessments using GIS mapping and background documentation. Lead or assist with consultation meetings and develop data recovery plans to mitigate impacts on National Register-listed resources. Perform artifact analysis and curation efforts while managing project performance, coordinating with clients, agencies, and the public. Prepare proposed avoidance and minimization measures for eligible archaeological resources. This full-time role reports to a Senior Archaeologist and may require travel throughout the Southeastern U.S., including weekend, overtime, and overnight work. Candidates must possess professional archaeological experience in NC, a Master's degree, and current RPA standing.
Required Qualifications
- Professional archaeological experience in NC
- Master's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field
- Current standing member of the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) or qualified archaeologist under the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications for Archaeology (36 Code of Federal Regulations, CFR Part 61)
- Experience with Microsoft Office and ArcGIS software
- Proficiency in utilization of GPS equipment to assist with site boundary delineations
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license prior to employment
- Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Must have the ability to see, smell, hear, talk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and twist, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, sit, stand, and walk
- Must have visual acuity for viewing a computer screen, the ability to talk, hear and sit for extended periods of time
- As-needed weekend, overtime work, and overnight work and travel will be required
- Travel will typically be in Southeastern U.S.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience as an archaeological field director or project manager
- Experience in Southeast U.S.
- DOT and/or energy-related (FERC and/or Corps-regulated pipelines, transmission lines, etc.) experience
- Experience in conducting Native American consultation
