Project Accountant

Job Summary

Manage project accounting activities from setup through closeout, tracking job costs, budgets, change orders, and billings while reviewing contracts and subcontractor documentation. Enter and maintain contract details, payment applications, and cost records in Sage 300, Sage Intacct, Procore, and Titanium systems. Prepare AIA invoices, lender draw packages, and monthly loan documentation, then process subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and lien waivers. Reconcile vendor records, subcontractor balances, accounts payable, and accounts receivable to support monthly close activities and project reporting. Assist project managers with cost forecasts, variance analysis, and financial reviews while communicating with clients, vendors, and lenders to resolve billing and payment issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
  • 2-5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, real estate development, property management, engineering, or another project-based environment
  • Experience with construction accounting, job costing, AIA billing, subcontractor requisitions, retainage, change orders, and lender draw packages
  • Experience with Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate and Sage Intacct strongly preferred
  • Experience with Procore and Titanium preferred
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort working with accounting and project management systems
  • Ability to review contracts, subcontracts, vendor records, invoices, and supporting documentation with accuracy
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, and month-end close processes
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with project managers, accounting teams, vendors, subcontractors, and lenders
  • High level of integrity and professionalism when handling confidential financial information

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate, Sage Intacct, Procore, and Titanium
  • Experience preparing AIA applications, subcontractor requisitions, lender draw packages, project cost reports, and work-in-progress reporting
  • Familiarity with construction contracts, development contracts, subcontracts, change orders, retainage, lien waivers, insurance documentation, and vendor compliance
  • Experience reconciling vendor records, project costs, accounts payable, loan balances, and project financial data
  • Background in construction, real estate development, property management, or project-based accounting environments
