Job Summary
Project Accountant to join Maxwell Construction's Greendale, IN office, supporting the financial administration of construction projects from setup through closeout. Responsibilities include establishing budgets, cost codes, and contract values; processing owner billings and lien waivers; reviewing subcontractor and vendor invoices for accuracy and compliance; tracking retainage and change orders; maintaining job cost records and preparing cost reports; monitoring accounts receivable and assisting with collections; supporting project closeout and compliance documentation. Works closely with Project Managers, Project Executives, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and the accounting team to ensure accurate job cost reporting, timely owner billings, proper subcontractor/vendor payment processing, and strong financial controls throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Construction Management, or related field preferred
- Two or more years of accounting, project accounting, construction administration, or job cost experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, Outlook, and PDF/document management tools
- Ability to read and understand basic contract terms related to billing, payment, retainage, change orders, insurance, tax status, and closeout
- Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and ability to prioritize competing tasks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with project managers, field personnel, subcontractors, vendors, owners, and internal accounting staff
- Must be accountable to escalate issues promptly, learn and apply knowledge quickly, and consistently meet deadlines
