Job Summary
Manage financial administration for active construction projects from setup through closeout, including setting up budgets, cost codes, and billing structures. Process subcontractor and supplier invoices, review coding for accuracy, and prepare monthly progress billing, owner invoices, and project claims. Track change orders, commit costs, and budget adjustments while maintaining accurate job costing records and reconciling forecasts. Support month-end close activities, monitor accounts receivable, and ensure complete subcontractor documentation for lien and statutory requirements. Collaborate with project managers to identify billing issues, cost variances, and financial risks.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of construction accounting experience, preferably with a general contracting firm
- Strong understanding of project accounting, job costing, progress billing, and cost tracking
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoice coding, and project reconciliations
- Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting or construction management software
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and high volumes of financial documentation
- High attention to detail with strong accuracy in billing, reporting, and cost allocations
- Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Understanding of holdbacks, statutory declarations, lien requirements, and construction billing processes
Desired Qualifications
- Procore experience
- Experience with construction accounting systems such as Sage 300, Viewpoint, Jonas, CMiC, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with design-build, fixed price, or construction management project delivery models
- Experience supporting inter-provincial projects
- Knowledge of CCDC contracts, subcontractor compliance, insurance, WCB, and bonding documentation
- Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
- CPA enrollment or designation
