Job Summary
Conduct one-on-one coaching sessions with beginning and new teachers to implement effective, research-based instructional strategies and curricula. Model and collaborate on lesson and unit planning while providing consistent feedback through classroom observations. Establish collaborative relationships to promote professional growth and student learning outcomes under the supervision of the building principal. Complete required documentation in accordance with Department of Curriculum and Instruction standards.
Required Qualifications
- Professional Teaching Certificate
- Have no fewer than five (3) years of successful teaching experience with accomplished ratings or higher on teacher evaluation system
- Have thorough knowledge and understanding of the West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards for assigned programmatic level
- Have thorough knowledge and understanding of West Virginia Professional Teaching Standards to support high-quality instructional practices in all classrooms
- Have thorough knowledge and understanding of the analysis of performance and assessment data, including West Virginia General Summative Assessments, interim assessments, STAR, and other formative and summative assessments, to facilitate meaningful interpretation and decision making to impact teaching and learning
- Be a member of the faculty in which the mentee is assigned
- Teaches at/near the same grade level or certification area of the mentee if possible
- Demonstrate leadership skills with the ability to communicate and relate well to school staff and administration
