Job Summary
Program Specialists support the Camp HOPE New York trauma-informed camp model, delivering high-quality programming and ensuring a safe, engaging experience for campers ages 12–17 in a residential camp setting outside New York City. Responsibilities include planning, preparing, leading, and breaking down core camp activities (arts and crafts, athletics, story time, yoga, scavenger hunts, baking, nature activities, photography, and more) in collaboration with the Activities Manager; supervising campers; coordinating supplies and spaces; ensuring safety and camper well-being; maintaining equipment and adhering to camp policies; participating in camp community activities; and living in a communal camp environment with shared cabins and group dining. The role requires prior experience with children/teens, strong organization, teamwork, trauma-informed practice orientation, and excellent communication skills. Camp runs August 19–24, 2026, with pre-camp trainings in Manhattan and Fishkill.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of one year of experience working with children or teens is required
- experience with youth ages 12–17 is strongly preferred
- At least two years of college or equivalent experience preferred
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prepare supplies, manage materials, follow schedules, and keep activity areas clean
- Ability to lead engaging, hands-on, age-appropriate activities that encourage participation, creativity, teamwork, and confidence
- Emotionally mature, dependable, and able to remain calm, flexible, and positive in a busy residential camp environment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with supervisors, staff, and campers
- Willingness to learn and follow trauma-informed, camper-centered practices when working with children and teens who have experienced violence at home
- Comfortable working and living in an outdoor, communal camp environment, including shared cabins, limited privacy, group dining, physical activity, and a full camp schedule
