Job Summary
Program Director leads CRP Transportation research portfolio, delivering a diverse portfolio of applied transportation research projects across programs such as NCHRP, TCRP, and ACRP. Responsible for portfolio strategy, budgeting, staffing, performance management, and engagement with sponsors and volunteers. Oversees contractor oversight, quality assurance, and implementation of organizational standards for rigor, relevance, objectivity, and usefulness. Requires high-level leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder-management skills to guide committees, panels, and research initiatives and to collaborate across TRB and National Academies units. Hybrid office/telecommute environment with travel as needed and strong emphasis on strategic planning, execution, and governance.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in transportation, public policy, research management, or closely related field; or a master's, or bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with significant professional experience demonstrating advanced subject matter expertise, leadership in complex projects or programs, and independent research, analysis, or policy development responsibilities
- Ten years of related professional experience, five of which were in a supervisory capacity
- Demonstrated impact on advancement of science or policy through National Academies’ activities or equivalent outside activities and through effective dissemination of these activities
- Significant experience managing applied research projects or programs
- Demonstrated experience supervising and developing professional staff in a complex organization
