Job Summary
Supervise students individually or in small groups under teacher direction while reinforcing classroom rules and maintaining health and safety. Assist with academic tasks, prepare instructional materials, and collect performance data. Provide direct service for feeding, manage transitions during bus lines and recess, and support students with physical care, mobility, and positioning. Correct disruptive behavior constructively and assist with toileting and self-help tasks as prescribed in individualized plans. Operate audio-visual and clerical equipment as needed. Work 7 hours daily with Paraprofessional Approval required.
Required Qualifications
- Paraprofessional Approval issued by ISBE
- basic knowledge in appropriate academic areas
- basic knowledge of students' physical condition, if applicable
- Promptness and excellent attendance
- Positive attitude
- High level of personal fitness
- Sound judgment
- Ability to work well with administration, faculty, students and parents
- Ability to perform duties as outlined in the job description
- Requires lifting 3-4 times during the day (up to 100 lbs)
- With appropriate training, be prepared to deal with students' physical impairments as directed
