Job Summary
Monitor student activity, safety, and behavior during playground, cafeteria, detention-time out, and street crossing activities while enforcing District policies and resolving minor infractions. Supervise students in detention rooms, maintain comprehensive records, prepare letters to parents, and confer with administrators regarding assignments. Act as a crossing guard to maintain order, safely stop traffic, and escort students across streets, reporting significant behavioral or traffic issues immediately. Provide basic first-aid, make initial medical assessments, and summon appropriate medical response when emergencies occur. Perform related clerical duties and assist other personnel as assigned. Requires a high school diploma, first-aid and CPR certification, and a criminal justice fingerprint clearance.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a first-aid and CPR card
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
- Some experience working with students
- Skill in working with other adults and with students with a variety of skill levels
- Ability to monitor student activities and behavior
- Ability to constructively intervene to stop unsafe or unruly behavior
- Ability to monitor student educational progress
- Ability to advise teacher(s) of student progress or perceived deficiencies
- Ability to work patiently and effectively with students, including students with behavioral problems and mild learning disabilities
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Knowledge of basic child care techniques
- Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Knowledge of basic bookkeeping, as required of specific assignment
- Knowledge of modern office methods, practices, procedures, office equipment, as required of specific assignment
- Ability to learn and apply techniques and methods of student supervision and classroom management
- Ability to learn growth and development principles of students
- Ability to work in a team situation
- Ability to apply prescribed instructional program in small and large group settings and in one-on-one tutoring setting
- Ability to type at a speed necessary for successful job performance
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to learn and apply basic principles and practices of instructional program within area of assignment
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others
- Ability to develop rapport with students and other employees
- Ability to make decisions independently
