Job Summary
Transcribe medical dictation and type documentation including psychiatric assessments and discharge reports. Act as receptionist by answering phones, determining call urgency, and referring callers to staff. Greet clients, provide resource information, and schedule appointments. Comply with and maintain statistical records for workload monitoring and program planning. Edit transcribed material for stylistic consistency and accuracy, identifying and resolving inconsistencies in medical and verbal content. This role supports a client and family-centred care model within the Mental Health & Substance Use program. Candidates must possess Medical Transcription or Medical Office Administration certification and one year of related experience.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12
- graduation from an approved program in Medical Transcription and/or Medical Office Administration Certificate
- one (1) year recent, related experience
- equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Knowledge of community, social and mental health resources
- Knowledge and experience in providing culturally competent support services specifically pertaining to aboriginal people
- Knowledge and experience in Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction and Recovery Oriented care
- Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
- Ability to organize and prioritize
- Ability to keyboard 5,000 keystrokes per hour
- Business writing skills
- Knowledge of general office procedures
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to operate related equipment
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
