Job Summary
Program Assistant - Education Department provides administrative and program support to the Higher Education Program Coordinator for the Career Training Scholarship Program, Stole and Commendation Program, and Trust Scholarships. Responsibilities include answering incoming calls, collecting data for processing applications, explaining documentation requirements, determining applicant eligibility, supporting all Education Department programs, and assisting with outreach services. The role requires travel to attend parent meetings, the ability to teach parent/student/teacher workshops, and supervision of students. A candidate should have an associate’s degree (bachelor’s preferred), 3–5 years of related experience, strong language/grammar/spelling skills, proficient Microsoft Office usage, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and operate with integrity. Must pass criminal background checks and drug/alcohol testing and may require a valid driving record to drive GSA or tribal vehicles. Flexibility in working hours and willingness to travel are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Business or closely related field is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Work experience in a similar work environment in lieu of education may be considered
- At least 3 to 5 years of work experience in a similar work environment is required
- Requires demonstrated language, grammar and spelling skills
- Must be willing to travel and attend parent meetings as needed
- Must have the ability to teach parent/student/teacher workshops
- Requires flexibility in working hours
- Requires the use of personal vehicle
- Requires knowledge of efficient office-procedures
- Requires demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Access, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint or similar programs
- Must have excellent Internet and email skills
- Requires effective telephone communication skills
- Ability to work with the public
- Must maintain a professional attitude and appearance that positively represents the Nation
- Must be able to work well with students
- Must be willing to conduct and teach activities to children
- Must be willing to supervise students
