Job Summary
Professor in Comparative Oncology (BOF) at Ghent University. The role combines leading internationally recognized research in comparative oncology with supervision of PhD candidates and master’s students, as well as taking on teaching responsibilities in biochemistry courses (Bio-organic Chemistry, Biochemistry I & II) within the Biochemistry research group of the Department of Veterinary and Biosciences. The appointment is a 5-year tenure-track with limited teaching load (average up to 8 ECTS per semester for 3 years). Candidates should have a strong international research profile in oncology within veterinary medicine, be capable of initiating and supervising research and educational projects, and contribute to institutional and societal engagement. Mobility and internationalization activities are valued, and leadership experience is an asset. Dutch language proficiency or willingness to learn will be assessed during the selection interview; instruction language must be mastered for teaching duties. The recruitment begins February 1, 2027, with a starting grant opportunity for newly appointed staff and options for continued funding based on performance, within an equal opportunities framework.
Required Qualifications
- Thesis-based doctorate in a relevant discipline (veterinary medicine, medicine, biomedical sciences, bioscience engineering, or pharmaceutical sciences) or a diploma or certificate recognized as equivalent
- At least two years of postdoctoral experience by the date of appointment
- Strong didactic and communication skills; ability to supervise PhD candidates and master’s students
- Willingness to learn Dutch if not proficient; mastery of language of instruction for courses
