Job Summary
Professional tutors provide writing and English language tutoring to undergraduate and graduate Suffolk students in one-on-one appointments or drop-in sessions, both in person (Boston campus) and online. The role includes leading weekly English language workshops, writing/tutoring sessions based on tutor skills and interests, attending trainings, and documenting session notes in the appointment tracking system. Strong candidates hold a Master’s degree or higher in English or related fields, possess TESOL certification or equivalent experience for English language tutoring, and demonstrate commitment to inclusive, anti-racist tutoring practices, with excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work on Suffolk’s downtown Boston campus.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or higher in English, Composition/Rhetoric, or related area
- TESOL (or equivalent) certification or equivalent experience teaching emerging multilingual students
- Knowledge of successful strategies for tutoring a diverse college student population
- Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (especially linguistic inclusion) as well as anti-racist tutoring praxis
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work in person on Suffolk’s downtown Boston campus
- Ability to tutor creatively and flexibly, treating each student as a unique learner
- Experience with EAB Navigate, TutorTrac, WCOnline, or other appointment management platforms a plus
