Job Summary
Develop and maintain productive relationships with physicians, ancillary staff, and patients while applying the nursing process to create a healing environment. Formulate daily goals and plans of care that involve patients as partners, demonstrating critical thinking to identify clinical, social, and safety issues. Provide detailed teaching to patients, families, and new staff, and actively participate in unit-based shared governance and quality improvement efforts. This role requires zero to two years of experience and a BSN is preferred. You must hold current RN licensure, CPR certification, and Act 34 clearance. UPMC offers a sign-on bonus up to $20,000, monthly loan repayment for graduates, and tuition reimbursement. Flexible shift options including night and weekend programs are available for qualified staff.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
- Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse either in the state where the facility is located or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located
- Act 34
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Zero to two years of experience
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients
- Mobility and visual manual dexterity
- Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities
- Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families
- Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment
Desired Qualifications
- BSN preferred
- UPMC approved national certification preferred
- Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit
- Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles (and/or teaching children if applicable)
- Ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs
- Ability to articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers
- Ability to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices
- Ability to incorporate national professional organization as well as business unit and health system's goals to improve patient safety, quality and satisfaction
- Ability to utilize research and evidence-based practice to support improvement in clinical care
- Ability to identify research issues or articles related to clinical specialty or areas of interest
