Job Summary
Design, coordinate, and deliver roadway infrastructure projects in compliance with TxDOT and AASHTO standards; utilize TxDOT Roadway Design Manual and AASHTO Green Book for horizontal/vertical alignments; calculate turning lengths; evaluate sight distance; design ADA-compliant pedestrian and bicycle facilities; evaluate and redesign driveways for safety and mobility; develop schematic/PS&E designs, temporary traffic control plans, and cost estimates; create 3D models using OpenRoads Designer and analyze terrain; prepare exhibits for visualization and client communication; use MicroStation, AutoTURN, Bluebeam Revu, and Excel; mentor EITs/interns; ensure designs follow TxDOT criteria and PS&E prep; coordinate with subconsultants and stakeholders; engage in client meetings; support pursuits with scopes and budgets; lead roadway tasks and projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field, or foreign equivalent
- TX PE License
- 5 years of progressive experience designing, coordinating, and delivering roadway infrastructure projects in compliance with TxDOT and AASHTO standards
- utilizing knowledge in the TxDOT Roadway Design Manual and the AASHTO Green Book to produce roadway designs with horizontal and vertical alignments
- calculating deceleration and acceleration lengths for turning lanes
- performing sight distance evaluations
- designing pedestrian and bicycle facilities with ADA-compliant cross slopes and grades
- designing driveways to maximize safety and mobility
- developing schematic and PS&E designs, temporary traffic control plans, and cost estimates using historical bid data
- OpenRoads Designer to create 3D models and terrain surfaces (superelevation, end conditions, retaining walls, cut/fill slopes)
- analyzing adjacent developments and 3D terrain models
- producing exhibits and schematic plots for design visualization and client communication
- software tools: OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, AutoTURN, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Excel
- mentoring Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and interns
- verifying design compliance with TxDOT criteria and PS&E prep requirements
- coordinating with subconsultants and other engineering groups
- participating in client meetings and stakeholder engagement
- pursuit support: developing scopes, fees, and schedules for contracts
- leadership roles in roadway projects
