Job Summary
Professional Engineer Special Inspector role in New York City (Part-Time). You will perform field inspections for high-rise and transportation infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with NYC Building Code Chapter 17 and related requirements. The position entails delivering detailed inspection reports, interfacing with contractors, clients, and agencies, and maintaining safety and accuracy in field work. Requires a bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Architecture, a current P.E. license in NY or NJ, 3+ years NYC inspection experience (with 5+ years direct construction inspection in NYC/NJ), familiarity with NYC Building Codes, OSHA 10 certification, and strong communication skills. Independent yet collaborative in dynamic field environments with reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. Part-time, as-needed basis with an annual compensation range of $135,200 to $156,000 equivalent in hourly terms.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architecture
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in New York or New Jersey (Civil or Structural)
- Minimum 3+ years of experience performing inspections in NYC
- 5+ years of direct construction inspection experience in NYC or NJ
- Familiarity with NYC Building Codes
- Hands-on experience inspecting Pile Installations and Geotechnical Conditions per Chapter 17 requirements
- Current OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety Certification (minimum requirement)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proficient in Microsoft Office; ability to deliver accurate, detailed inspection reports; reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
- Willingness to pursue additional technical certifications as part of ongoing professional growth
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in dynamic field environments
- Familiar with construction materials, methods, and safety standards
