Professional Coding Specialist III - Cardiothoracic Surgery

Job Summary
Codify complex surgical procedures in cardiothoracic and related specialties with high accuracy, performing detailed reviews of medical records to assign ICD-10, CPT, and modifier codes while ensuring compliance with AMA, CMS, CCI, MUE, and LCD/NCD guidelines; collaborate with clinicians and Revenue Cycle to resolve documentation gaps, support clean claims, and maintain coding quality through ongoing education and audits; requires strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, plus the ability to interpret diverse surgical documentation (e.g., CABG, valve surgeries, LVAD/ECMO daily management) and to stay current with coding updates.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Current HIM/Coding Certification through AHIMA or AAPC
- Must obtain Specialty Medical Coding Certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) within one (1) year of hire
- Three (3) years of medical coding experience to include one (1) year of advanced surgical coding experience
