Job Summary
Production Tech Lead- Breeding responsible for supervising production activities to ensure safety, animal welfare and bio-security, motivating the team to meet production standards, acting as liaison between team and management, and evaluating continuous improvements in the swine production process. Must perform necropsy and tissue sampling, examine animals for illness or injury, treat minor injuries, coordinate with veterinarians, manage supplies of feed and medicines, implement advanced sow/gilt care and handling, monitor estrus and facilitate artificial insemination, select animals and semen for breeding, record animal characteristics, tag animals, manage vaccine administration, maintain proper temperatures, keep semen storage logs, and operate farm technology. Requires ability to lead a team, strong communication, willingness to work weekends, physical ability to perform tasks (bend/push/pull up to 60 lbs, long periods of walking/standing), and a 4-year degree or equivalent experience. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; occasional travel; salary at $21.10/hour with standard full-time shifts; EOE.
Required Qualifications
- 4-year college degree in related field or equivalent experience in similar production environment
- Strong communication and listening skills
- Experience with or ability to learn farm technology (computers, hand held devices/wand sows and other equipment, as necessary)
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems and make decisions independently
- Ability to effectively lead a team
- Be a team oriented, self-motivated, and positive individual with strong work ethic
- Ability to efficiently multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with Bio-Security and swine production
- Ability to work weekend, as scheduled
