Job Summary

Perform repairs and alterations on firefighter uniforms, including turnout gear, using industrial sewing machines and other tools. Inspect garments for damage or wear to determine appropriate repair methods such as stitching, patching, hemming, and reinforcing. Ensure all work meets safety standards and department specifications while maintaining accurate records of completed repairs. Collaborate with staff to prioritize urgent jobs and manage workflow, occasionally assisting with inventory management. Operate in a clean, organized environment following all safety protocols. Work full-time Monday through Friday with consistent hours, though overtime and occasional weekends are required based on production demands.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proven experience in garment repair, tailoring, or industrial sewing
  • Great manual dexterity
  • Ability to read and interpret repair instructions, measurements, and specifications using math skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship and following safety standards
  • Efficient with prioritizing and multi-tasking
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Solution focused mindset
  • Self-motivated
  • Open and effective communicator with co-workers and supervisors
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
