Job Summary
The Dryer Operator performs spray-drying of liquid intermediate product to meet finished product specs and adheres to Safety, Quality, and Food Safety procedures. Operates and monitors up to 3 spray-drying units, reports to the Supervisor, and may receive direction from Superintendents. Rotating 6 PM–6 AM shift with flexibility to train/work in other departments to meet customer requirements. Responsibilities include following safety/GMP/food safety rules, performing sanitation, monitoring QA controls and recordkeeping, operating the packing line, inspecting dryer infrastructure, troubleshooting equipment, notifying management of failures, communicating effectively with colleagues, and covering shifts as needed. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent (or 3 years’ experience), forklift certification, and the ability to read/interpret instructions, perform basic mathematics, and work both independently and as part of a team. Preferred knowledge of manufacturing and packaging processes.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or 3 years minimum of experience in similar position
- Forklift certified required
- Ability to follow instructions, learn and ask questions
- Mechanical aptitude and trouble-shooting skills
- Good people skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Write simple correspondence
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Ability to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions
- Solve standardized problems with few or no variables
- Use learned experience to solve more detailed and complex problems
- Ability to be forklift certified required
- Physical ability to stand/walk; lift up to 60 pounds; vision requirements
- Willingness to train and work in other departments
- Work on 6 PM - 6 AM rotating schedule
- Knowledge of manufacturing and packaging processes (preferred)
