Job Summary
Production & Manufacturing Engineer at LAT Aerospace (Aircraft division) in India, responsible for transforming engineering designs into repeatable, high-quality hardware while maintaining startup-like speed. Works at the intersection of manufacturing engineering, supply chain, production planning, and operations to build systems that enable fast, reliable flight-ready hardware. Key activities include developing and refining manufacturing processes for aircraft structures, propulsion systems, and prototype hardware; translating designs into efficient manufacturing workflows; planning production schedules and optimizing machine utilization, layout, and technician allocation; identifying bottlenecks and driving throughput improvements; developing work instructions, assembly procedures, quality checklists, and manufacturing documentation; collaborating with design engineers to improve manufacturability; managing procurement timelines and coordinating with suppliers; building vendor relationships; driving inventory management and production readiness; establishing quality control processes to meet engineering and manufacturing standards; supporting rapid prototype builds with scalable processes for low-volume production; tracking metrics such as lead time, yield, rework, and production efficiency; and driving continuous improvement through design for manufacturability and fabrication improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Strong fundamentals in manufacturing engineering, production systems, and mechanical engineering
- Experience with industry-standard CAD software and engineering drawings
- Experience developing manufacturing processes for mechanical or aerospace products
- Familiarity with machining, sheet metal fabrication, composites, welding, additive manufacturing, and mechanical assembly processes
- Experience with production planning, inventory management, and supply chain coordination
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
- Experience implementing quality control processes and root-cause analysis for manufacturing issues
- Comfortable working with prototype hardware, machine shops, technicians, and external suppliers
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple parallel builds
- Experience in aerospace, automotive, robotics, or other high-performance hardware manufacturing environments is highly preferred
