Job Summary
Production Editor responsible for managing the editorial production workflow of ATD Press books and research reports from copyediting through final delivery, ensuring projects meet deadlines and quality standards. Works closely with authors and in-house teams (editorial, design, production) to troubleshoot issues, prepares manuscripts for typesetting, contracts freelance copyeditors/proofreaders/indexers, reviews markups and corrections, handles metadata and cover materials, and creates publishing timelines in Wrike. Creates scripts for audiobooks and edits long-form content as required. Requires 3 years of editing/proofreading/writing experience, a Bachelor’s degree in English or journalism (or equivalent), familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style, strong project management skills, and proficiency with Word tracked changes, Adobe Acrobat commenting tools, InDesign, InCopy, and Wrike. Based in Alexandria, VA with a hybrid in-office/remote work model.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or equivalent degree
- 3 years’ experience editing, proofreading, and writing
- Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style and style guides
- Experience with Wrike or similar project management tools
- Knowledge of InDesign and InCopy
- Ability to manage publishing timelines and coordinate with freelance editors
- Experience preparing manuscripts for typesetting
- Experience contracting with freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers
