Job Summary

Review documentation for appropriate surgical and anesthesia elements, including attestations, signatures, and dates. Abstract and code procedures from CPT, crosswalk to ASA codes, and apply modifiers while coding ICD10. Abstract anesthesia times, events, and care team providers, and review for medical direction. Work escalated cases, resolve complex edits and denials, and identify reporting trends. Meet daily production and quarterly audit KPIs, provide required management reports, and mentor less experienced coders. Adhere to HIPAA and company policies while working remotely.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of complex surgical coding across all specialties
  • 4+ years of anesthesia coding
  • 5+ years of experience in anesthesia
  • Current CPC
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to self-motivate new projects
  • Occasional Standing
  • Occasional Walking
  • Frequent Sitting
  • Frequent hand, finger movement
  • Use office equipment (in office or remote)
  • Communicate verbally and in writing

Desired Qualifications

  • Highschool graduate or equivalent
  • CANPC
  • Experience with multiple EMR's and documentation types and templates, including handwritten paper documentation, and electronic medical records
  • Extensive knowledge and working experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF
  • Intermediate Outlook skills
  • Ten key proficiencies
  • High proficiency in communicating well with all levels of USAP employees
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Experience coding for physicians, CRNA, CAA, NP, SRNA, and residents
  • NCCI bundling
  • Experience with LCD/NCD
  • Strong understanding of CMS guidelines for coding
  • Must be able to code all elements included in anesthesia with proficiency, including time, medical direction, and care team nuances
  • Working knowledge of Athena IDX for edits, denials, manual tasks, and charge corrections
  • Experience coding for physicians, CRNA, CAA, NP, SRNA, and residents
