Job Summary
Production Chemist I on 4th Shift at Materion sets up and operates various departmental work centers using tube furnaces, vacuum ovens, distillation equipment and fine glassware for standard chemical preparations per route cards. Responsibilities include operating equipment to achieve reactions, setting up furnaces and monitoring processes, handling inert atmosphere equipment (glovebox), sampling products for analytical tests, documenting actions and results, tracking progression of route cards, and adhering to safety and quality procedures within the quality management system. Requires an associate degree in chemistry and at least two years of related experience; familiarity with instrumentation, process equipment, and compliance with export-control regulations (ITAR/EAR) is noted. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds and work with protective equipment in a potentially hazardous environment.
Required Qualifications
- Requires associate's degree in chemistry from a two-year college or technical school
- Minimum two years related experience
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
- Experience with instrumentation and processes preferred
- Export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology (ITAR/EAR) may be required
- Exposure to fumes/particles and protective gear use (safety glasses, respirator, protective clothing)
