Job Summary
Product Systems Engineer at nLIGHT responsible for end-to-end system lifecycle activities including architecture, performance metrics, cost & schedule management, and troubleshooting to enable next-generation directed energy laser products. The role involves system testing, on-site and remote troubleshooting, supporting Sales/Management with customer applications and documentation, performing root-cause analysis on RMAs/NCMs to drive corrective actions, aggregating production data for improvement, proposing tools/processes to enhance efficiency/quality, collaborating with development and manufacturing teams on schedules and BOM accuracy, estimating project costs and initial product costs via yielded engineering BOMs, and contributing to the New Product Introduction (NPI) process. The position requires at least 2+ years of corporate experience and a BS in Physics, Systems, Optical, or Electrical Engineering (or similar), with strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Candidate should be detail-oriented, highly organized, proficient with analytical tools (Excel, Word, SQL, Python, VB, D365, PDM), and have direct experience in optical/laser design; defense experience and project-management skills are advantageous. The role is located in Camas, Washington, and is not remote. The company emphasizes export-control compliance and a broad benefits package.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of corporate experience
- BS Physics, Systems Engineering, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar discipline
- Excellent communication, listening and collaboration skills
- A passion for learning new things with the ability to absorb and assimilate information rapidly
- Attention to detail
- Ability to solve/break down complex problems
- The ability to coordinate across organizational boundaries
- Highly organized with the ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Strong Computer Skills required. Useful list includes MS Excel, MS Word, SQL, VB, Python, MS Dynamics D365, PDM, etc.
- Direct optical, laser, mechanical, and/or electrical design experience preferred
- Program/Project Management competency helpful
- Defense experience useful
