Product Development Engineer – Material Handling Equipment

Job Summary
Design new products, product enhancements, and customized engineering solutions for loading dock equipment, dock levelers, vehicle restraints, and seals. Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documentation while performing Finite Element Analysis and engineering analysis. Support prototype builds, testing, validation, and pre-production activities, ensuring designs are scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable through collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering. Develop and maintain Bills of Material within MRP systems, drive engineering changes to improve quality and performance, and analyze field feedback and warranty data for continuous improvement. Track project timelines using project management tools and provide approval drawings and cost estimates to Sales Engineering. Ensure all designs meet industry standards, safety regulations, and performance requirements while actively supporting the company's health and safety culture.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering or Technical Sciences
- Experience working in an engineering environment supporting multidisciplinary teams
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design and manufacturing processes
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements
- Strong problem-solving skills with sound engineering judgment
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and engineering documentation tools
Desired Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering
- 3+ years of experience with SolidWorks CAD
- 5+ years of engineering experience
- Experience with material handling equipment, loading dock systems, or industrial equipment
- Knowledge of dock levelers, dock lifts, vehicle restraints, and related products
- Technical experience with hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical components
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation
- Experience with configuration and data management systems
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems
