Job Summary
Product Development Engineer- Cable at AFL leads new product development projects from Concept through Design, Development, Testing and Industrialization, applying engineering analysis and DFx principles to fiber optic cable products. The role interfaces with Product Line Managers, Applications Engineers, Market Managers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Designers to support and advance existing and new products, designs experiments, coordinates prototypes, writes test plans, oversees testing, and analyzes results for design improvements. Must leverage stage-gate processes, drive design for manufacturing and assembly, provide fiber expertise to customers, and uphold EH&S policies. Requires a BS in Engineering or Materials Science with 3+ years in product development and project management, strong communication and collaboration skills, and experience in advanced modeling, testing, and process understanding across extrusion, stranding, forming/welding; 5+ years’ experience preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors of Science in Engineering or Materials Science
- 3+ years of technical experience conducting Product Development
- 3+ years of Project Management experience
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, and teamwork skills
- Effective time management and organizational skills
- Preferred Skills: Fiber Optic industry experience, design, development, and/or applications
- Demonstrated ability to create innovative solutions/designs (Patents, Intellectual Property)
- Process experience in extrusion, stranding, metal forming/welding
- 5+ years of technical experience conducting Product Development
- 5+ years Project Management Experience
