Job Summary
Design complex knowledge graph interfaces and data visualizations for a learning platform, translating relationships, progression, and mastery data into intuitive experiences. Define information hierarchy, interaction patterns, and responsive behavior while accounting for API constraints, missing data, and edge cases. Build scalable design systems with reusable components and tokens, then create rapid interactive prototypes using HTML/CSS/JavaScript or Framer to validate ideas before engineering. Collaborate directly with the Founder and frontend engineers to shape product direction and deliver clear handoffs, while testing designs with real users to iterate based on evidence.
Required Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in Figma
- Experience designing products that have actually shipped
- Experience with complex visualizations such as network/graph structures, multivariate comparisons, temporal trends, or distributional views
- Ability to design for real dynamic content rather than relying on perfectly controlled mock data
- Ability to think through edge cases and interaction states before engineering has to ask for them
- Understanding of responsive design and the realities of constrained hardware and performance environments
- Practical knowledge of WCAG AA accessibility standards
- Comfort working with APIs, technical constraints, and frontend engineers
- Ability to prototype with HTML/CSS/JavaScript, Framer, or similar technologies
- Care about typography, hierarchy, density, motion, color, interaction, and the details that make a product feel exceptional
- Ability to validate work with real users and explain decisions through user and product outcomes
- Technical, frontend, creative coding, illustration, animation, photography, or visual design background
- Experience using AI to materially improve speed, quality, exploration, research, prototyping, or production workflow
- Portfolio demonstrating 2–3 strong case studies showing problem, constraints, reasoning, design decisions, process, iterations, final outcome, and impact or results
- Portfolio demonstrating meaningful experience with complex data visualization
- Portfolio showing something that actually shipped—a live product, working application, production design system, or shipped feature
