Job Summary
Design and develop mechanical systems for rugged forestry equipment, including creating detailed designs, calculations, and prototypes for mechanical systems; develop electro-hydraulic, computer-controlled systems that integrate hydraulic components, sensors, input devices, and control logic to directly, remotely, automatically, or autonomously control mobile machines; create efficient operator and technician interfaces; analyze materials for mechanical properties and cost; collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design integration into production; conduct tests such as stress, fatigue, and vibration analyses and validate control logic; create technical documentation and BOMs; identify opportunities for design optimization and cost reductions; provide occasional field support and travel within Canada as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Strong understanding of machine design fundamentals, mechanics, machine control theory, sensor technologies, remote control, and autonomous control systems.
- Software experience including 3D modeling (SolidWorks).
- Design experience in welded steel fabrications, hydraulic cylinders and components, control valves and plumbing details; implementing advanced hydraulic power and electronic control systems, sensors, and controllers.
- Diesel engine installations, vehicle drive train transmissions and axle component selection.
- Attachments to seamlessly integrate with heavy equipment including load distribution, stress analysis, material selection, and ease of installation.
