Job Summary
Producibility Manufacturing Engineer (ES4) serves as the critical bridge between design engineering and manufacturing operations to ensure products are designed for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and quality. Responsibilities include conducting DFMs, performing producibility assessments during development, collaborating with design engineers to optimize designs for manufacturing efficiency, cost reduction, and quality, identifying and resolving manufacturing challenges before impact on schedules/costs, developing and documenting manufacturing processes and work instructions, and supporting NPI activities through production ramp-up. The role also covers cost and quality management, supplier collaboration to verify capabilities, and cross-functional participation in design reviews and product development. Strong emphasis on manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, composites, welding, assembly), CAD proficiency, GD&T, lean/Six Sigma, risk management, and maintaining compliance with relevant standards. Requires US Citizenship and STAR ID; travel to client/NASA facilities involved; office environment with potential exposure to regulated aerospace/defense contexts.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field.
- Ph.D. with minimum of 4 years of experience OR MS with at least 8 years of experience OR BS with at least 10-15 years of experience.
- 10 years hands-on manufacturing engineering experience (preferred).
- Experience with machining, sheet metal fabrication, composites, welding, assembly, or related processes.
- US Citizenship and STAR ID required.
- Proficiency with CAD software (CATIA, NX, SolidWorks).
- Knowledge of GD&T.
