Job Summary
Lead, motivate, and hold Produce Department associates accountable while overseeing daily operations including purchasing, inventory management, merchandising, and product rotation. Recruit, hire, train, develop, and evaluate department staff in partnership with store leadership, addressing performance concerns and making disciplinary decisions when necessary. Maintain attractive, fresh displays and monitor product quality, freshness, pricing, and availability to drive sales and profitability. Control labor, packaging, inventory, shrink, and expenses while ensuring compliance with food-safety regulations and company procedures. Plan staffing and schedules based on business needs, performing associate duties as required. Work flexible full-time shifts of up to 10 hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years of management experience
- Management experience preferably in grocery, produce or another food-retail environment
- Previous experience as a Department Manager, Assistant Department Manager or equivalent
- Demonstrated success leading a team of four or more employees
- Strong knowledge of produce products, handling practices, merchandising and department operations
- Experience managing labor, inventory, purchasing, shrink and department profitability
- Ability to hire, train, develop and hold employees accountable
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, planning and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work effectively with associates and leadership throughout the store
- Availability to work a flexible full-time schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
- Work shifts of up to 8–10 hours
- Stand and walk for extended periods
- Bend, stoop, reach, grasp and climb ladders safely
- Lift and carry loads weighing up to 60 pounds
- Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds
