Job Summary
Direct the daily operation of the produce department by supervising personnel, training associates, and scheduling staff to meet service and budgetary objectives. Conduct daily inspections of all sections to ensure product freshness, quality, and safety compliance, while rotating inventory, discarding spoiled items, and maintaining sanitation standards. Execute hands-on produce duties including receiving, cleaning, trimming, cutting, and displaying goods, alongside implementing promotional displays and controlling shrink. Manage inventory levels, process paperwork, and resolve customer complaints while adhering to federal, state, and local health regulations. Operate ordering devices, scales, and safety cutters, and assist with emergency procedures for equipment malfunctions.
Required Qualifications
- Working knowledge of all job duties within the Produce Department including trimming, cutting, displaying, watering, building produce displays, rotating and discarding outdated or spoiled product
- Strong communication skills
- Good leadership and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to manage people
- Ability to maintain composure in dealing with customers and co-workers
- Knowledge of employment laws and workplace practices
- Good understanding of overall company practices and Produce Department policies and procedures
- Ability to judge and react to business activity
- Knowledge of produce variety, standards, perishability, food safety, food handling and sanitation procedures and department policies and procedures
- Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures

- Knowledge of profit and loss statements
- Good attendance
- Ability to lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 75 lbs
- Ability to bend, stoop and reach frequently and occasionally climb ladders
- Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks, six-wheel carts and pallet jacks
- Ability to perform repetitious arm movement to prepare and package products
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination
- Mental alertness
- Ability to operate computer software and electronic ordering devices to order products, plan sales, input inventory and schedules, and print labels
- Ability to operate scales, wrappers, compactors and garbage disposals
- Ability to utilize cleaning supplies and equipment
- Ability to utilize knives and safety cutters
- Ability to use latex gloves
- Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to comply with Company, Division, and Store policies and applicable laws
