Job Summary
Perform deceased donor organ recovery for transplantation and research, serving as the primary surgical subject matter expert for abdominal procurements. Provide intraoperative leadership, consult on donor suitability and complex cases, and communicate directly with transplant centers regarding surgical findings. Lead training and education for clinical staff, validate competencies, and contribute to clinical standards, SOPs, and performance improvement initiatives. Maintain regulatory readiness for CMS, OPTN/UNOS, FDA, OSHA, and CDC standards while participating in case reviews and research. Maintain 24/7 on-call availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with travel to donor hospitals required.
Required Qualifications
- Medical Doctor/ Doctor of Osteopathy (MD/DO or equivalent), U.S. or foreign trained
- Demonstrated experience in abdominal organ procurement
- Eligibility to practice medicine in the United States
- Residency within the LiveOnNY service area
- Availability for 24/7 on-call surgical recovery responsibilities, including overnight and extended-hour cases
- Availability for telephone or virtual clinical consultation as needed
- Travel by personal automobile, emergency transport, or air may be required
Desired Qualifications
- Board certified or board eligible in Surgery preferred
- Transplant surgery fellowship preferred
