Job Summary
Thermal process specialist responsible for ensuring safe, compliant retort processing operations and for developing, validating, and optimizing thermal processing systems to ensure food safety, regulatory compliance, product quality, and manufacturing efficiency. Key duties include supervising retort processes, maintaining calibration for retort equipment, reviewing thermal process records, performing root-cause analysis of deviations with the Senior Quality Manager, assisting with temperature distribution studies and heat-penetration work with the R&D team, scheduling preventive maintenance with the maintenance department, controlling the retort cleaning process, helping establish a formal training program for retort operators, assisting in filing scheduled processes with the FDA per CFR, maintaining the Thermal Processing Schedule for all products, conducting routine reviews of processing data and disposition of deviations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliant and high-quality production.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, or a related scientific field
- 3–10+ years of experience in food manufacturing, food processing, quality assurance, process engineering, or thermal processing
- Experience with retort, aseptic, pasteurization, or sterilization systems
- Experience conducting process validations and scientific studies
- Knowledge of commercial food production environments and continuous improvement practices
- Knowledge of process validation and verification, HACCP and preventive controls, Food safety regulations and compliance requirements, Statistical analysis and data interpretation and packaging interactions with thermal processing
