Job Summary

Leads incident investigations across L&S and MPC/MPLX components, conducts comprehensive root cause analyses to prevent recurrence, and collaboratively develops actionable recommendations. Performs and validates process safety leak calculations and categorization; analyzes safety metrics, develops dashboards/reports to present key trends, and develops AI tools for analyzing incident data, MOC, and audits to enhance process hazard recognition. Reviews prior recommendations from incident investigations and PHAs to ensure effective corrective actions and prevent recurrence. Provides engineering expertise related to hazard identification, facility siting modeling, PHA, LOPA, and RMP to maintain regulatory compliance. Collaborates with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to address process safety concerns and devises interim/long-term risk reduction solutions. Conducts qualitative and quantitative risk assessments and supports process safety audits and regulatory inspections, communicating and mitigating process safety risks effectively.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED with 10 years of relevant experience within a process industry (e.g., refining, midstream or petrochemical) OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum or related) with two (2) years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in HES-related field with five (5) years of relevant experience in a process industry.
  • Working knowledge and experience implementing process safety elements.
  • General understanding and application of the process, process hazards, corrosion mechanisms and safeguards for the type of facility/unit(s) assigned.
  • Understands and applies qualitative and quantitative process safety risk evaluation methods on simple scenarios and processes (e.g., MOC, PHA, LOPA, risk calibration, facility siting).
  • Understands PSM and RMP regulatory requirements as well as industry-recommended practices related to process safety.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Travel Expected: 15%
