Process & Quality Engineer

Job Summary
Lead continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance across the East Hartford, CT paper mill. Plan, coordinate, and execute process trials while troubleshooting manufacturing issues using data analysis, root cause analysis, and statistical methods to identify and implement corrective actions. Serve as the technical lead for the Quality Management System and Product Safety programs, developing procedures, ensuring equipment calibration, and investigating customer complaints through root cause analyses. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize production recipes, support new product development, and drive initiatives based on Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies. Participate in an on-call rotation and occasional extended workdays or weekend coverage as needed to support operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pulp & Paper Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- One to three years of experience in a continuous manufacturing or industrial production environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Advanced data analysis skills
- Experience with PARCview and JD Edwards (JDE)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret large datasets, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to employees at all levels of the organization, from production floor personnel to senior leadership
- Knowledge of papermaking processes, testing methods, and quality data interpretation
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
- Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs, and safely navigate uneven walking surfaces
- Ability to work safely in an industrial manufacturing environment while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, and other PPE as required
- Participation in an on-call rotation and occasional extended workdays or weekend coverage as needed to support operations
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced data analysis skills are strongly preferred
- Experience with PARCview and JD Edwards (JDE) is preferred
- Knowledge of papermaking processes, testing methods, and quality data interpretation is preferred
