Process Engineer - Sterilization

Job Summary
Optimize thermal processes to improve operational efficiency, equipment reliability, and product quality by analyzing heat distribution, penetration, and deformation studies. Drive machine improvements and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity while identifying skill gaps and developing sustainable solutions. Investigate equipment, hardware, and process-related issues to implement data-driven improvements that increase uptime. Serve as the primary on-site engineering interface for installation, testing, and commissioning, ensuring compliance with SQF requirements and safety standards. Partner with R&D to develop sterilization programs and process flows, maintaining accurate technical documentation and supporting cross-functional teams through training and guidance.
Required Qualifications
- Should be proficient in reading and understanding engineering drawings, electrical, Hydraulic, and Pneumatic prints
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to manufacturing equipment, automation, hardware, software, and process systems
- Ability to analyze processes and implement practical, data-driven improvements
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and integrated software applications
- Understanding of preventive maintenance systems, engineering documentation, and technical procedures
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or related engineering field
- Associate degree (A.S.) in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or related engineering field with 3- 5 years related experience
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as: safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
- Ability to read and interpret engineering prints
- Ability to apply concepts of Algebra and Geometry
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to troubleshoot machine issues using past experience with little supervision
- Must regularly lift and / or move up to 10 pounds
- Must frequently lift and / or move up to 25 pounds
- Must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of food manufacturing standards and SQF requirements preferred
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and R&D
- >5 years of experience with retorts and process authority desired
- Experience working with a team preferred
- Knowledgeable Microsoft office applications preferred
