Job Summary
Kern Energy seeks a Process Engineering Intern to support operations and process improvement across refinery units. Under guidance of experienced engineers, the intern will monitor unit operations, gather and analyze data from historians, assist in turnaround planning, participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis, evaluate catalyst performance, explore process optimization opportunities, participate in Process Safety Management meetings, perform sizing calculations, maintain MOC documentation, develop mass balances for process and utility units, and support small capital projects. The role involves hands-on exposure to refinery processes, data analysis with mentorship, and development of foundational refinery safety and engineering practices. Expect standing/walking duties, and collaboration with operations staff to collect samples and address product quality issues. Learning objectives emphasize understanding refinery processes, data analysis, safety compliance, and effective communication in an engineering setting.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related engineering discipline
- Completion of sophomore year or higher preferred
