Process Automation Technician

Job Summary

Maintain field instruments, motor controls, smart sensors, and input-output electronics comprising the process automation system. Add, replace, and program variable frequency drives and soft starts while calibrating pressure, temperature, and level sensors. Lead repair and upgrade of PLCs to modify timing and sequence for automated packaging lines, including installation of new instrumentation and motors. Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot input/output electronics and networking using multimeters for 4-20 loops and 120V troubleshooting. Read schematics to perform maintenance and service electrical/instrumentation and basic mechanical skills. Actively promote safety culture and participate in sustainable improvement processes like 5S, Kaizen, and Total Productive Maintenance.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the English language
  • Electrical/instrumentation skills
  • Industrial equipment/systems knowledge
  • Basic mechanical skills
  • Knowledge of computer components including circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware/software applications and programming
  • Ability to learn all the processes in the plant
  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical/instrumentation/computer automation systems effectively
  • Ability to read wiring schematics/diagrams
  • Ability to acquire and use electrical and mechanical skills/knowledge such as use of pipe threading machines, bandsaw, drill press, and hand tools
  • Basic knowledge of how to use a multimeter
  • Ability to work the shift/number of hours in which duties need to be accomplished, including overtime, holidays and weekends, as necessary
  • Ability to use a personal lockout/tagout lock
  • ANSI approved hard-hat
  • Safety glasses with sideshields
  • FR clothing
  • Safety shoes/boots with steel toe protection
  • High School Diploma
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical/instrumentation trades
  • Formal, specialized, process control/computer training beyond four years of high school

Desired Qualifications

  • Formal education or technical training
  • Programmer certifications
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Process Automation
  • Additional years of progressive experience with industrial equipment and processes
