Job Summary
Probation Officer Trainee in the NYC Department of Probation, Division of Adult and Juvenile Operations. Under close supervision, participates in a course of training and performs beginning level professional work to gain knowledge, skill, and competence in probation. Responsibilities include conducting court-ordered investigations to obtain detailed information on offenses and offender histories, preparing and submitting reports and recommendations using available technology, supervising probationers and providing supportive casework/counseling services, referring probationers to social/governmental/community agencies, making home visits, maintaining case records, and potentially being assigned to specialized units. May operate a motor vehicle and, for certain assignments, may be required to carry a firearm. Selected candidates will be assigned within the five boroughs based on Department needs. Location noted: New York City, NY. Expected to work in-person.
Required Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 30 semester credits in sociology, law, psychology, education, social work, criminology, rehabilitation counseling, counseling, guidance, or related courses that cover contemporary, cultural, social or psychological issues.
- License Requirement A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
- Peace Officer Status Eligibility for Peace Officer status must be maintained for the duration of employment.
