Job Summary
Facilitate intakes for new admissions, distribute medication, and maintain custody of residents in three juvenile correctional facilities while performing regular well-being checks. Document resident activity using department data systems, complete audits on medication delivery and property, and respond to emergency situations requiring appropriate intervention. Focus on pro-social skill development through individual and group counseling approaches and diverse programming. This temporary, non-exempt on-site role includes days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays based on business needs at the Anoka County Juvenile Center campus.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- 21 years of age or older by date of hire
- Valid driver's license
- Vehicle available for business use
- Must be able to lift over 100 lbs. in emergency situations
- Close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to see colors, shades and brightness
- Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents
- Problem solving
- Prioritization of tasks
- Short- and long-term memory
- Interpreting and understanding written documents
- General mathematical skills
- Ability to handle/carry equipment
- Ability to reach, climb or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
- Ability to perform periodic high levels of exertion in the form of self-defense, pursuit, or restraint of an individual
- Tolerance for exposure to bodily fluids, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, or other hazards
- Ability to work with individuals who may be hostile, dangerous, threatening, armed, and aggressive and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Ability to work in stressful and physically threatening situations
- Must successfully pass driver's license background check
- Must successfully pass drug screen
- Must successfully pass DOT physical
- Must sign an informed consent form allowing the County to obtain to conduct such screenings and/or verify their qualifications
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or closely related field
- One year (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience in a correctional or probation setting
- Knowledge of criminal justice system, processes, and chemical health policies and laws
- Knowledge of state laws related to correctional facilities
- Skill in motivational interviewing techniques and investigation strategies
- Skill in effective behavior modification and de-escalation strategies
- Experience with evidence-based correctional practices
