PRN Scrub Nurse

Job Summary

Prepare and maintain medical equipment and instrumentation for surgical procedures, including setting up sterile fields, draping patients, and passing instruments during operations. Perform pre-procedure skin preparations, transport patients to the procedure room, and assist with positioning and specimen handling. Conduct safety checks on equipment, participate in sponge and instrument counts, and assist with post-procedure patient transfers and room cleaning. Manage inventory, assist with decontamination and sterilization processes, and maintain physician preference cards. Requires current RN license, CPR certification, and one year of operating room experience. No nights, holidays, or weekends required.

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN License in state of practice
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • 1 year of OR experience
  • Graduation from an accredited nurseing program
  • CPR required
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients in the center
  • Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers, and other health team members
  • Must stand for long periods and remain alert during operations
  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients
  • Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment
  • Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc)
  • Often required to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time

Desired Qualifications

  • Prefer 1-2 years clinical experience in an operating room setting
  • May accept 0-2 years of clinical experience in a related field
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Education must be obtained from an accredited institution
  • Degree will be verified
