Job Summary

Perform medically prescribed respiratory care procedures in accordance with physician's orders, medical staff approved protocols, and clinical practice guidelines. Assess patient's condition using professional judgment, evaluate therapy appropriateness, and communicate discrepancies or concerns to nurses and physicians. Actively participate in patient rounds, shift reports, and team conferences while documenting all procedures, patient education, and therapy responses. Maintain and sterilize equipment, report malfunctions, and assist during special procedures or critical situations. Stand by and respond to emergencies, including inclement weather and staffing shortages, while ensuring safety and infection prevention standards. Requires current Kansas licensure, BLS certification, and one year of Respiratory Care Practitioner experience. Full-time position in Elwood, KS.

Required Qualifications

  • One year experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
  • Current Kansas licensure as a Respirator Therapist
  • Current BLS certification
  • Competency in the provision of care according to established standards
  • Appropriate application of age specific standards, policies and procedures and guidelines in caring for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Understanding of treatment costs and financial support as they relate to quality and efficiency
  • General computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection prevention standards
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality
  • Significant amount of standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling, often for prolonged periods of time
  • Both gross and precise motor functions
  • Lifting/exerting of up to 50 lbs
  • Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation of care
  • Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard
