Job Summary
Plan, direct, and implement activity therapy programs as a component of the patient's treatment plan. Complete activity assessments through observation and interviews to determine patient needs, skills, and interests. Facilitate sessions including therapeutic leisure, sports, dance, music, and community outings to improve mental and physical well-being. Instruct patients in techniques designed to meet specific needs while helping them learn social skills for independence. Modify activities to suit specific groups and resolve patient complaints with a positive, empathetic attitude, prioritizing patient safety. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, three years' healthcare experience, and CTRS or specialty certification.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field
- Three or more years' experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or currently in the process of obtaining national certification
- Certified in the area of specialty (Art, Dance, Music, etc.)
- Clinical professional licensure (LCPC, LPC, etc.) with certification in expressive therapy area
- CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification
