Job Summary
Privacy Counsel role focusing on US privacy compliance, commercial transactions, and product counseling within a global cloud/SaaS environment. Primary responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating Data Processing Agreements and privacy addenda; advising on privacy obligations in customer contracts, procurement engagements, and strategic partnerships; supporting privacy reviews, due diligence requests, RFIs/RFP responses; providing guidance on cross-border data transfers, vendor privacy obligations, privacy by design, and AI governance; developing contracting templates and playbooks; advising on US privacy laws (CCPA/CPRA and evolving state requirements) and contributing to privacy incident assessments and internal investigations. The role collaborates with Product, Engineering, Compliance, Security, Procurement, and Commercial teams to translate regulatory concepts into practical guidance and to advance a culture of privacy, AI governance, and data protection obligations across the organization.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree (JD)
- Active license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction
- Approximately 3 to 6 years of relevant privacy, technology, or commercial legal experience
- Experience drafting and negotiating privacy and technology agreements in cloud or SaaS environments
- Working knowledge of United States privacy laws and practical privacy compliance operations
- Familiarity with GDPR concepts and global privacy notions
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills
- Ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives
- Experience supporting AI governance or AI-related product counseling (preferred)
- IAPP certification (CIPP/US, CIPM, or CIPT) a plus (preferred)
- Knowledge of healthcare, financial services, or other regulated industries (FedRAMP a plus, preferred)
